When Chevrolet announced it would be producing a Corvette featuring a hybrid electric powertrain there was a bit of shock that reverberated throughout the world. However, it didn’t long for enthusiasts to view the performance of the hybrid AWD C8 E-Ray as something to embrace. From the factory, the E-Ray is quicker to 60mph and in the quarter-mile than the C8 Z06 thanks to its 160 horsepower electric motor driving the front wheels. Because the E-Ray shares the same 6.2-liter LT2 ICE as found in the C8 Stingray, by hot rodder logic it only makes sense to modify the E-Ray’s LT2 and further broaden the gap in performance between it and the Z06. One C8 Corvette performance shop in Texas is wasting no time in doing exactly that. Boost District has built the first twin-turbo C8 E-Ray Corvette and it’s a 1,000 wheel-horsepower beast.

Boost District President/CEO Roshan has been one of the leaders in pushing the C8 Corvette platform to its limits and beyond. Having built a reputation as the go-to shop for supercharging C8s and being the current record holder for the quickest supercharged C8 in the quarter mile, Roshan decided to do something a little different and develop a complete twin-turbo kit for the C8 Corvettes with the help of Extreme Turbo Systems (ETS). “We like to innovate and keep up with technology to keeps things fresh for our customers,” Roshan says. “We knew we wanted to modify the E-Ray and felt that it was the perfect way to debut our new turbo kits.”

Boost District is known for supercharging everything and now we will turbocharge everything as well. — Roshan, President Boost District

The foundation of the turbo kit are two 6466 turbochargers, wastegates, and blow off valves all from Precision Turbo. This setup can produce as little at 640 wheel-horsepower on 6 psi of boost and has achieved well over 1,000 wheel-horsepower with the proper engine and drivetrain modifications to support that level of power. Also included in the turbo kit is the hot- and cold-side piping, an air-to-water intercooler, a heat exchanger, an oil scavenge pump, and all the necessary hoses, clamps, and fittings to complete the install.

As for the rest of the build, the Boost District twin-turbo E-Ray’s 6.2-liter LT2 received a set of forged pistons to handle the increased boost and the DCT transmission was upgraded with a stronger clutch from Dodson Motorsport. Interestingly, the car retains the use of the direction injection system without the use of secondary port fuel injection. “With big power we need big fueling,”  Roshan syas. “We rely on the big bore high pressure fuel pump and stage one big bore direct injectors from Lingenfelter Performance Engineering. We are running a bit more fuel pressure so these will help get us to the 1,000 horsepower mark.”

On the dyno this E-Ray rips in both two-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. While strapped to the Boost District in-house chassis dyno the twin-turbo E-Ray produces over 830 wheel-horsepower from the 6.2-liter LT2. Once on the all-wheel drive dyno at Bailey’s Performance where Roshan gathered the stock baseline numbers, his E-Ray laid down an impressive 1,011 wheel-horsepower. Currently this is the quickest E-Ray in the world in the quarter mile with a best pass of 9.70 seconds and 153 mph.

We took over the supercharged C8 world with our record holding Stingray and we plan on doing the same with the E-Ray. — Roshan, President Boost District

Roshan and his team at Boost District show no signs of slowing down with the E-Ray or Stingray. With the addition of its new turbo kit, Boost District can add forced induction any way you like to your C8. We look forward to seeing how far Roshan will push his E-Ray on the dyno and the track.
