If Volkswagen wants to make inroads into the lucrative truck market, starting in the compact class would be an excellent place. It’s still a burgeoning segment, with only two rivals currently entered but several more waiting in the wings. Ram is reportedly planning the Rampage in the segment, and rumors refuse to die about a new Toyota Stout.
Reports suggest the Udara will be based on the MQB A0 platform, which underpins other compact VW Group models such as the Volkswagen T-Cross, Polo, Virtus, and Audi A1, to name a few. Therefore, we can expect the so-called Udara to be smaller than the Tarok concept.
Production of the baby VW truck is expected to kick off sometime in the next three years, with a launch slated for sometime in 2026. The regular ICE-powered models should debut first, with the hybrids following later.
