It’s like the line at the end of an action movie’s credits: the Ford Mustang will return. Fortunately for die-hard Blue Oval fans, the Mustang has returned for a seventh generation, along with a new lease on automotive life. Better yet, the new 2024 Ford Mustang GT has a few bragging rights that the Camaro and Challenger can’t match.

While the new Ford Mustang GT wears controversial styling, it delivers in several other facets.

The Coyote V8 in the 2024 Ford Mustang GT outmuscles the competition
With 486 horsepower on tap, the upcoming Mustang GT outmuscles both top-dog naturally aspirated (N/A) rivals in the muscle car segment. Specifically, the outgoing Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack produces 485 horsepower, just one fewer than the new GT. Moreover, the Camaro 1SS tops out at 455 ponies, 31 shy of the GT.
Of course, the only way to unlock the Mustang GT’s potential is to option the pony car with its performance exhaust system. Without the pipes, the GT’s output stops at 480, similar to the now-discontinued Mach 1.

The largest infotainment screens in the 2023 Dodge Challenger and 2024 Chevrolet Camaro are 8.0 inches and 8.4 inches, respectively. While that’s a vast improvement over the S550 Ford Mustang’s entry-level 4.2-inch LCD, it’s a far cry from the seventh-gen Mustang’s system. Specifically, the top-trim ‘Stangs will have 13.2-inch touchscreens, a vast expanse over its doomed rivals.

The most significant bragging right in the upcoming Mustang’s repertoire is its survival into another generation. Chevrolet announced the demise of the Camaro after 2024, marking the end of the model’s sixth generation. What’s more, the Challenger (and Charger) are doomed, leaving the Mustang alone in the segment.
Of course, these noteworthy attributes aren’t the only way the Blue Oval pony car shines. For instance, an “Electronic Drift Brake” is a fun novelty only the Mustang possesses out of the segment. Still, with a missing Shelby badge, the seventh-generation Mustang has a lot of growing room.
