- Rivian R2 teased on X
- Specifications also leaked on X
- R2 reportedly starts below $48,000, offers 330 miles of range
- 0-60 mph in 3.0 seconds
Rivian has teased the new R2 electric SUV via X, giving us a glimpse of the rear end. At the same time, a Rivian owner and fan named Chris Hilbert appears to have leaked the new crossover’s specifications, providing the base MSRP, the range, the acceleration figures, the seating capacity, the size, and even the approach and departure angles.
Let’s start with the price, which is reportedly $47,500. CEO RJ Scaringe proclaimed that the R2 would cost between $40,000-$60,000, and it seems that he’s keeping that promise, despite challenges from last year that will carry into 2024.
Leaked Performance Specifications
Other specs leaked by the tweet include the range – up to 330 miles – and the 0-60 mph time – three seconds. The dimensions have also been provided, with the R2 reportedly measuring 185.6 inches in length, 75 inches in width (excluding mirrors; 84.4 inches with mirrors), and 66.9 inches high.
Maximum ground clearance is reportedly 9.8 inches. 32-inch tires are also said to be equipped, and the approach angle is listed as 25 degrees, with the departure angle reportedly 27°. The breakover angle was not leaked, but hopefully, Mr. Scaringe will give us those specs when the R2 is revealed in two days.
R2 Styling
It appears that the R2 will be nearly indistinguishable from the current R1S. A full-width taillight bar and a black roof appear in the latest teaser image, and the previous teaser showed similar R1 styling cues for the front end of the vehicle. We expect that the cabin will be similar; why mess with a clean design that has proven popular?
The new R2 will be presented to the public on March 7. At the same time, Rivian will open reservations with fully refundable deposits.
We also expect more information on future products, with six new models to arrive by 2025.
