The Lucid Air has a followup act: the Lucid Gravity.
At the Los Angeles Auto Show Thursday, the EV startup revealed a prototype of its second EV and first SUV, the Gravity. First teased at the 2020 premiere of its first luxury electric sedan, the Gravity is no longer a concept but a soon-to-be three-row vehicle.
Lucid CEO Peter Rawlinson and head designer Derek Jenkins showed the crowd two Gravity SUVs, one with a surfboard strapped to the roof and with a board and mountain bike packed inside.
The full-size SUV will seat up to seven and have as much as 440 miles of range. That will make it one of the longest-range electric SUVs, especially in the luxury segment. It’s only overshadowed by its own Lucid Air sedan which had over 500-mile range on its launch edition.
California-based Lucid says the SUV will have a new platform but use the same Lucid Air electric powertrain known for its ferocious horsepower (up to 1,050 hp on the Grand Touring Performance version). The luxury SUV will also focus on performance like its sedan sibling, but still be able to tow and haul people and things.
The front trunk, clamshell trunk and interior layout look spacious and oversized and are configurable for five, six or seven with two or three rows. The seats fold into the floor, creating an open flat surface. Jenkins said there’s 112 cubic-feet in total, including the frunk.
This is still a Lucid with the same muscular front-end and luxe features like a glass roof and floating touchscreens, including a new 34-inch curved OLED front dash.
When Will the Lucid Gravity Be Available and For How Much?
The Gravity is set to land (gravity puns abound) in late 2024. It will have similar pricing as the Lucid Air with a base version starting just under $80,000. The Air Pure base starts at $77,400, significantly dropping the entry price for Lucid’s one and only product.
The LA Auto Show runs from Friday to Nov. 26 at the LA Convention Center.
