K&F Show Summary: For your listening pleasure (and for absolutely no other reason) in liuue of a move of TV vehicle review we present to you something a little different. This is our full breakdown of every classic Dominic Toretto driven ’68-’70 Charger from the Fast and Furious movie franchise, from the beginning in 2001 to current day (April 2024 as of this recording).
As you know, the series that started in 2001 with a bunch of VCR thief stealing family members has become a 20+ year action franchise. Dominic Toretto (as portrayed by Vin Diesel) has been the lead character nearly everyone one of them, and Dom has a thing for MOPARS. Beyond that though, he has a SERIOUS thing for ’68-’70 Chargers (with the ’70 being the primary).
We don’t claim to be as solid with the F&F franchise as we are the Dukes of Hazzard, but we did our best. At worst we spend an absolutely ridiculous amount of time discussing ridiculous franchise doing ridiculous things with flying Dodge Charger. Basically, it was perfect for us.
Enjoy!
-Rob, CD, and the Bern
The Fast and the Furious (2001): This is the OG black ’70 Charger 70 RT , big block, blower, and a real ’70 Charger grille – you know the one!
2 Fast 2 Furious (2003): Dom’s not in this one nor is a Charger.
Fast & Furious (2009): We think it’s supposed to be the same ’70 Charger from the first one, but we’re not sure. Now it’s more set up for Pro Touring and it’s painted matte black. This is the first one done by Dennis McCarthy of Vehicle Effects who will take over the remainder of the series and already did Tokyo drift….which already happened in real life but not in the F&F timeline yet. The Charger dies and Dom escapes in David Freiburger’s “F-Bomb” ’70 Camaro.
Fast Five (2011): Somehow – the black Charger with the blower is back – and it’s shiny again. Brian drives it in front of the prison bus, the grille isn’t MOPAR anymore – the bus hits the back bumper – doesn’t destroy the Charger – and merely pirouettes over it.
Fast Five (2011): There is also a ’70 Charger at the end of this one, but with no blower poking through the hood. It’s no longer black but a flat frey.
Fast & Furious 6 (2013): No ‘Charger in this one – but they have that shortened red ’69 Daytona. It dies.
The Fast and the Furious Tokyo Drift: No Charger in this one, but Dom makes a cameo at the end in a ’70 Roadrunner (the Sledgehammer) built by Steve Strope.
Furious 7 (2015): This has the “trophy truck” ’70 Charger that leaps out of the airplane while wearing a parachute. It dies.
Furious 7 (2015): Another black ’70 Charger with a Pro-Touring setup but with a blower sticking out of the hood. Does a wheelie and lands o Jason Stahtam’s car. It dies.
The Fate of the Furious (2017): This is the 68 Charger that’s the “ICE” Charger. It’s ’68 in the rear and ’70 in the front with an EMP thing in the trunk, wheel flares, and the wheels stick out 6 inches.
Fast & Furious Presents Hobbs & Shaw (2019): Never saw it, so if there’s a Charger in this one we have no idea.
F9 (2021): This starts with the ’70 Charger built by Speedkore. All carbon fiber – kind of has a recesses Coronet grille like a 69 Charger 600 kinda.
F9 (2021): This is the wide body – all ’68 – mid engine Charger (with a Hellcat in the backseat).
Fast X (2023): Back to the original ’70 Charger (in the storyline…we think), but now with relocated front wheel locations, sweet 18” HRE wheels, a fake blower, and a real ’70 Charger grille

Also in this episode….the good people at National Parts Depot have to decided 2024 is the year to present the Award Winning Newsman Bernie McPartland in his (self-proclaimed) award winning news segment, Bernie On the News. As most of you know, NPD is the title sponsor of The MuscleCar Place Podcast and has been since 2011. Their immense support of TMCP as a show (and as a company) can’t be overshadowed.
And now, the fact that they are presenting Bern in the drivers seat for the world to hear….is somewhat humbling. And by humbling, we mean frightening, terrifying, sickening, etc. Welcome, NPD (and Bern, don’t screw this up)!
