From a standstill to 100 kph in less than a second – this feat was achieved by students from ETH Zurich and the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts with their self-built electric racing car ‘mythen’.
The car accelerated from 0 to 100 kph in just 0.956 seconds, beating the previous Guinness World Acceleration Record for electric vehicles of 1.461 seconds set by a team from the University of Stuttgart in September 2022. A distance of just 12.3 metres was enough for the Swiss electric car to achieve this.
All components of ‘mythen’, from the printed circuit boards (PCB) to the chassis and battery, were developed by the students themselves and optimised for their function. Thanks to the use of lightweight carbon and aluminium honeycombs, the racing car weighs just around 140 kilos. Four self-developed wheel hub motors and a special drive train give the vehicle an impressive output of 240 kilowatts (326 hp).
The AMZ team has already set the world acceleration record for electric cars twice before – once in 2014 and again in 2016. In the following years, as mentioned above, their record was broken by a team from the University of Stuttgart. Now the world record is back in Switzerland and the ETH students.
