If you’re not aware of AC Schnitzer’s M.O., the company doesn’t enjoy cutting up cars with insane splitters and wings like many other tuners. Instead, it subtly massages the platforms with more tasteful modifications. It’s been offering modifications for the 5 Series for decades now, so rest assured the performance and aesthetic enhancements are going to stand the test of time and some understandable abuse.
Sleeper Good Looks
For the uninitiated, a sleeper build is a model that looks unassuming in appearance but is capable of serious performance. With the G60 5 Series as a starting point, the company already has a great basis for increased performance, but the key to a sleeper is not going overboard with looks, and in this respect, the company kills it.
The company adds slight aerodynamic enhancing pieces that are there to accentuate the looks as much as they are to increase downforce. This starts with the subtle splitter up front, with the addition of side skirts, rear roof spoiler, and rear lip spoiler. All of these come in a clean gloss black and are further enhanced thanks to the AC Schnitzer graphics kit that we would forgo if you want to stay under the radar.

Additional visual enhancements include various 19, 20, and 21-inch rims including the AC3 Flowforming rims in silver/anthracite, AC4 Flowforming rims in BiColor or gloss black, and AC1 Light Allow Wheels in BiColor, Black, or Anthracite. These lightweight options were created to look good and reduce unsprung mass, improving your handling in all situations. If you think the wheels appear to be pushed out more, you wouldn’t be wrong, as they also feature 10mm AC spacers on all four corners. Finally, interior changes consist of aluminum pedals, footrest, and cover for the iDrive controller.
Performance Gets A Schnitzer Upgrade
Besides the lightweight wheels, performance is increased courtesy of suspension, spring, and engine kits.
The spring kits the company currently has can lower the 520i, 530i, 520d, and 523d by 15-20 mm front/rear each approximately, while the 530i xDrive, 520d xDrive, 523d xDrive can be lowered by 25-30 mm front/rear each approximately. While we understand we don’t have these wonderful diesel variants here in the US anymore, it gives you a good framework to work with.
As for the spring kits and engine performance kits, the company says they’re still in the works. In the past, its engine performance kits have added about 100 horsepower on top of the stock engine output, so that’s a good metric to go by. If any of this interests you, everything can currently be ordered, but the company hasn’t said yet when items will be shipped.
