Audi and Porsche are recalling 6,676 electric cars in the US. In 1,899 Audi e-tron GT and 4,777 Porsche Taycan, there is a risk that the battery is not adequately sealed and liquid is leaking in, posing a potential fire hazard.
According to the NHTSA’s Safety Recall Report, Porsche began using a Teroson sealant in the battery production process for Taycan vehicles in September 2022 in an effort to increase battery sealing robustness. However, about six months later, the German automobile manufacturer began receiving reports of reduced insulation resistance values in vehicles with the Teroson sealant sold outside the United States, and in April 2023 it got a report about an incident in the US.
This was then met with the use of more sealant in May 2023, “which resulted in no more reports of liquid intrusion,” as Insideevs wrote. Audi further stated that none of the incidents involved a fire or thermal event and that it’s conducting a voluntary recall out of an “abundance of caution”.
