There’s no getting away from how outdated the 2023 4Runner feels inside, despite the addition of an eight-inch touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, Amazon Alexa compatibility, Bluetooth streaming, voice recognition, and Wi-Fi connectivity. The materials are solid but nothing special all the way back to the third row, which is best folded down for cargo space until it’s needed.
On the plus side, it’s comfortable, and there’s a lot of space for a driver and three passengers; capping the passenger count at four ensures comfort and leaves plenty of cargo space for gear. Ergonomically, it’s simple and well laid out, even with all the added selectors for drivetrain and off-road modes. The driving position is high, as you would expect from what is essentially a mid-sized truck with an SUV body.
