In all likelihood, this will be the last V8-powered Mustang, so Ford wants to send the Coyote motor off with a bang. It gets new forged connecting rods from the GT500, a dual throttle-body intake, and a specially balanced crankshaft. The results speak for themselves: 500 hp, 418 lb-ft of torque, and a 0-60 mph time under four seconds. Ford even swapped out the Getrag-sourced six-speed manual transmission used in the Mustang GT in favor of the superior Tremec ‘box from the GT350. Opting for the manual in the Dark Horse also nets a cool blue shifter made from titanium. Of course, that may sear your palm if left sitting in the sun. A 10-speed automatic transmission is also available for buyers chasing peak performance.
With regards to handling, the Dark Horse gets standard MagneRide suspension, which was a standout feature on the outgoing Mustang. Stopping power is provided by massive 19-inch Brembo six-piston calipers up front, pinching 13.9-inch rotors. Staggered Pirelli P Zero tires come standard, but an optional Handing Package swaps them for even wider Pirelli Trofeo rubber. That package also includes stiffer springs, larger sway bars, and an integrated gurney flap.
To make sure it holds up on a track, the Dark Horse comes with NACA ducts for the brakes, an auxiliary engine oil cooler, a rear axle cooler, and a lightweight radiator with stronger cooling fans.
