There are a lot of contrasts in this short video posted on tberg.media’s Instagram. The short Tesla vs Blazer video post occurred at the Seekonk Speedway in Seekonk, Massachusetts, a track that routinely hosts Spectator Drags for the entertainment of those in attendance. Of course, the EV vs any ICE is the modern equivalent of the Ford vs Chevy war that has raged for decades. By the sound of the fans during this exhibition, it is obvious they were adequately entertained as well!
Of course, the glaring difference between the vehicles in this battle is the battery vs ICE elephant in the room. While many videos are touting the low-end torque of the Tesla EV in drag racing scenarios, Seekonk Speedway is an oval. That doesn’t play well into the Tesla’s two-ton-plus weight when “Go fast, turn left” is the fastest path to the Winner’s Circle.
In the other corner, is this unassuming, black 1985 Chevy S-10 Blazer. Based on Chevy’s small S-10 pickup, the baby Blazer is no whale. But it’s no pooch either, thanks to a healthy 5.3-liter V-8 swapped in place of its factory (at best) 110 horsepower V6 engine. Powertrains and modifications aside, we think there are a few other differences that are huge contributing factors to how this race turned out.
Enthusiasts of the antics that occur at this speedway are probably very familiar with this black Blazer. This vehicle, and its owner’s driving history, have been the subject of several Instagram posts and YouTube videos. It becomes painfully clear for the Tesla driver that this isn’t his opponent’s first time around this track. And, this Blazer has more than just a V-6 or inline-four pushing it around the corners.
We’re not sure of exactly what kind of suspension or engine modifications are made to the Blazer that helped it win this Tesla vs Blazer gunfight, but we aren’t necessarily disappointed with the outcome either. In fact, like many of the folks in the grandstands that day, we were quite entertained. We think you will be too, so check out the video and, feel free to scroll through the comments section as well.
