The ‘Superstore’ series doesn’t come to mind when you think of shows with a car element. However, the series conceals a movie homage muscle car.
The cast of “Superstore” sold millions of viewers on the sitcom shenanigans and sobering struggles of retail workers. However, the show had an easter egg that American muscle car fanatics may have missed. The parody superstore’s parking lot concealed a Ford Mustang Bullitt in plain sight.
The Ford Mustang Bullitt in ‘Superstore’ was present for mere seconds, season after season
Eagle-eyed car enthusiasts may clock the Dark Highland Green Mustang in shots of the store from the front facade. The culprit is a S197 Ford Mustang Bullitt, specifically from the 2008 or 2009 model year. You don’t get anything as comprehensive as a walkaround, but a glimpse is all it takes to make the Mustang.
It’s a sweet sighting in the series’ landscape of comparably workaday cars. After all, it’s supposed to be a parody of a large retail establishment, most likely a Walmart. However, the dark green ‘Stang defies the mundane lot, showing off rear quarter louvers and the retro styling of the fifth-generation movie-homage Mustang.
What’s more, the fictional character with the keys to the 2008-2009 Bullitt drives it year-round. The show is set in St. Louis, Missouri. Now, if you know anything about St. Louis’ winter temperatures, you’ll know that it frequently dips below freezing. Furthermore, the Missouri locale gets well over a foot of snow per winter. Still, the five-speed, V8-powered Bullitt refuses to yield.
None of the characters in ‘Superstore’ seem like a match for the Ford Mustang Bullitt
While the S197 Ford Mustang Bullitt is a subtle, almost sinister presence next to the superstore, it’s a bit out of place. The characters span the gamut, but none of them seem like a casting match for the Bullitt.
A few of the characters who could be loud, raucous American muscle car drivers likely won’t appreciate the Bullitt’s understated aesthetic. The special edition shrugs off in-grille lamps, hood scoops, spoilers, and even badging in favor of a look akin to Steve McQueen’s ride in the 1968 film, “Bullitt.” Still, it’s nice to see an enthusiast’s car in a show with little automotive appeal.
